SpeakUp SL is an organization dedicated to helping young learners in Sri Lanka build confidence in spoken English through engaging, conversation-based online classes. Our mission is to provide students with the opportunity to practice speaking English in a supportive and interactive environment while fostering meaningful cross-cultural connections with tutors from English-speaking countries.

Our program is entirely volunteer-run. From our directors and coordinators to our volunteer tutors, every member of SpeakUp SL generously contributes their time to help make our mission possible. We recruit passionate high school, college, and university students from English-speaking countries around the world to serve as volunteer tutors, creating an international community committed to education, leadership, and cultural exchange.

SpeakUp SL operates on a semester-based system. Before each semester begins, we recruit and interview new volunteer tutors and student participants. Students are welcome to join at the start of any semester and may continue in future semesters to further develop their spoken English skills and confidence. This structure allows us to continually welcome new tutors and learners while providing returning students with ongoing opportunities to grow.

Together, we are building a global community where students gain confidence, volunteers develop leadership skills, and meaningful connections are created through the power of language.
